Sodium Citrate is white colored crystalline powder which is widely utilized as an alkalizing agent in medical industry. It has chemical formula Na3C6H5O7 with molecular weight of 258.068 g/mol. This compound is sodium salt of citric acid which shows good solubility in water and insolubility in alcohol. It is known to have sour taste and works by neutralizing acid present in urine & blood. This salt also possesses anti-coagulating properties which makes it suitable for use in blood banks. Sodium Citrate has melting point of around 212 degrees Celsius with hygroscopic property.
